Western Australia is currently grappling with 23 active total fire bans as the state faces extreme fire danger conditions. According to Fireban data, these bans are specifically imposed at the council and shire level, affecting areas such as Kellerberrin, Coorow, Dandaragan, Goomalling, and several others.
The highest fire danger rating recorded in the region is currently Extreme, necessitating stringent measures to prevent bushfires. Current weather conditions across five sampled districts show temperatures reaching up to 30.7C, with wind speeds as high as 47.9 km/h and gusts peaking at 90.4 km/h, according to Open-Meteo data. Humidity levels vary significantly from 35% to 92%, contributing to the challenging conditions.
Despite these current conditions, Fireban forecast data suggests a potential easing, with tomorrow's peak forecast rating expected to be High and the Fire Behaviour Index (FBI) predicted to reach 45.
The total fire bans are in effect across a broad range of council areas, including but not limited to Nungarin, Tammin, Trayning, Victoria Plains, York, Merredin, and Carnamah. These measures aim to mitigate the risk of bushfires during a period of heightened vulnerability.
In addition to the bans, certain districts such as Lockwood, Avon, Roe, and Yarra Yarra are experiencing severe conditions, underscoring the need for vigilance and adherence to fire safety protocols.
Residents in the affected areas are urged to remain alert and follow all fire safety guidelines issued by local authorities. It is crucial to avoid activities that could potentially ignite fires, such as using open flames or machinery that may generate sparks.
